Younger?

My husband and I just finished the series called "Younger" on Netflix. I was absolutely hooked after watching the trailer to this show.

With no spoiler alerts, Younger is about Liza Miller (Foster), a recently divorced woman in her 40s who is figuring out how to navigate her personal and professional life in New York City now that she’s on her own. But starting a new career at her age proves difficult, which Liza realizes when she struggles to land a job in publishing. When her BFF Maggie (Debi Mazar) takes her out one night to distract her from her struggles, Liza meets 26-year-old Josh (Nico Tortorella), who mistakes her for someone much younger. After her encounter with Josh, and with some convincing from Maggie, Liza decides she’s done playing by the rules and comes up with a plan: she just has to be younger. So Liza pretends to be a twentysomething in order to get an entry-level job as an assistant to Diana Trout (Miriam Shor) at the publishing house Empirical Press, where she befriends 26-year-old Kelsey (Hilary Duff). In the process, she gains a new sense of confidence and learns that it’s never too late to be whoever she wants to be. Now with a new job, an attractive young love interest, and a budding friendship with her new co-worker — at a company led by a handsome executive (Peter Hermann) — Liza just has to make sure nobody finds out the truth about her age. (taken from Netflix)

So, would you go back to be "younger" again? Reinvent yourself? I must confess, I can't say that I would. I mean, unless I went back with the knowledge that I have now...I don't think I would want to go back to being "younger". Except to have the tiny body that fit in that tiny bikini! Am I right ladies? I mean, I wasn't a bad person or had a terrible life. I feel that it has been a lot of hard work to get where I am today at almost 54. I am still growing and learning, and I am utterly grateful. Life is a journey, and it is so very beautiful.

The show was very thoughtful, and I loved the characters, and the life lived in New York. I must say my favorite character was "Maggie" who was Liza's best friend. She was a lesbian and had a pretty badass attitude, but one with grace and beauty. She was authentic...and I loved her character. She was an amazing friend and stood by what she believed and was unapologetic about it. As I have gotten older, that is one statement that rings true...be the best version of yourself and be abso-freakin’-lutely unapologetic about it.

I am originally from Brooklyn and truly, I have no, like, ZERO desire to live there again. BUT I do want to revisit the beautiful city that never sleeps. My daughter just got back from her senior trip to DC and NYC. Seeing her pictures and her itinerary of where she went makes me want to go back to visit and rekindle my love for the BIG APPLE.

When it comes to being YOUNGER.....when it comes down to it, age is truly a number...it doesn't define you. Yea, so what, I don't get carded anymore when I go out for drinks, but I am okay with that. I haven't colored my hair in years, and I have gray hair coming in faster than I would like, but you know what, that is okay. I have more wrinkles on my face than I did 10 years ago, and you know, it's okay. My lower back hurts on occasion, as well as my knees, not to mention my shoulder, but you know, IT IS OKAY. But you know what....I have NEVER been more comfortable in my own skin as I do now.

As we get older, it’s easy to forget the lessons that being younger taught us. However, the spirit of youth—curiosity, playfulness, simplicity, JOY and boundless potential—can always remain within us. Embracing the joy of being younger doesn’t mean rejecting adulthood, but rather, it’s about finding ways to incorporate those values into our everyday lives. By doing so, we can continue to grow, learn, and live with the SAME PASSION and WONDER that we had when we were younger.

So, let’s hold onto the best parts of our youth, not as a time locked in the past, but as a guiding light for our futureGrowing older is a privilege that is denied to many. So LIVE your life. LIVE IT...I mean REALLY LIVE IT.  What do you have to lose?

XOXO,

Claudine
